Kingfisher hand embroidery taster workshop at the Wyeside, Builth Wells, August 12th

Join hand embroidery artist Lucy Newman for a creative workshop celebrating one of the River Wye’s most distinctive and colourful characters: the beautiful kingfisher.

Using crewel wool and traditional thread painting techniques, participants will be guided through creating their own hand embroidered kingfisher, exploring colour, texture and stitch along the way. The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some embroidery experience, and all materials will be provided.

Bayeux Tapestry Embroidery Workshop in Newtown

Join me at Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown for a full-day Bayeux Tapestry-themed hand embroidery workshop.

Using crewel wool, you will learn Bayeux stitch, the laid-and-couched embroidery technique used throughout the original tapestry to fill horses, figures and decorative motifs. You will also explore traditional crewel embroidery stitches while creating a winged creature inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in historic embroidery techniques. All materials are provided.

Inspired by couture embroidery and modern embellishment techniques, this workshop will guide you through different ways of using beads, sequins and thread to create texture, surface detail and decorative stitched effects.

You will experiment with materials, learn practical beading and embellishment techniques, and create your own piece of embroidery to take home.
